Autumn and Winter Nails 2026: Dark Colours, Shapes and Cold-Weather Care

Which nail colours to wear this autumn and winter: dark cherry, burgundy, chocolate. The best short shapes, gel polish and hand care in the cold, in Tbilisi.

When the leaves start falling and the coats come out, the manicure changes too. Soft summer pinks and neons go back in the drawer, and deep, dark colours take over: dark cherry, burgundy, chocolate, wine. Here is which colours suit autumn and winter, which shape to choose, and how to look after your hands in the cold so the manicure lasts.

Why we choose dark colours in the cold season

In autumn our clothes get darker: a brown coat, a black jumper, a wine-coloured scarf. A pale pink nail often gets lost against them, while a dark one finishes the look. Also:

  • dark gel polish looks expensive — a deep, glossy colour makes hands look polished and refined;
  • it suits every age — dark cherry or burgundy looks just as good on young and mature hands;
  • it is ready for the holidays — one dark manicure takes you from November to New Year;
  • small flaws show less — a tiny scratch is less visible on a dark gloss than on a nude.

Autumn–winter nail colours 2026

Dark cherry

The colour of the season. From a distance it reads almost black; in the light it shows a deep red-brown. Nata did exactly this shade at SANLE recently. The photo below shows how it sits on short square nails: clean cuticles, an even coat and a strong shine.

Burgundy and wine

A classic that returns every autumn. Burgundy is redder and livelier, wine is softer. Both go beautifully with gold jewellery.

Chocolate and brown

Warm, calm shades that look especially good with beige, caramel and brown clothes. If very dark colours are not your thing, milk chocolate is a good middle ground.

Dark green and midnight blue

For winter, for anyone who wants something different. Emerald or midnight-blue gel polish shines beautifully on festive evenings.

Nude, if you don't like dark colours

A nude or milky manicure is still in fashion in winter, especially for work. What matters is clean cuticles and a neat shape; we explain more in our cuticle care article.

Which shape suits a dark colour

A dark colour shows the nail shape clearly, so the shape matters:

  1. Short square with soft corners — the most practical and the "cleanest" option. Dark colours look modern on it and don't get in the way of everyday life;
  2. Short oval — soft and feminine, especially on narrow nails;
  3. Medium almond — the festive option, it makes fingers look longer.

Long dark nails look bolder and need more care. If your nails are thin and break easily, choose gel polish with strengthening: dry winter air makes nails more brittle.

Gel polish or regular polish in winter

On a dark colour every scratch and chipped tip shows. Regular polish starts to chip within days, while gel polish keeps its shine for 2–3 weeks. That makes gel the practical choice for autumn and winter. More on the difference: gel polish or a classic manicure.

How to care for your hands in the cold

Cold wind, hot water and indoor heating dry out skin and cuticles. A few simple habits keep the manicure fresh for longer:

  • gloves outside — cold cracks the skin and dries out the cuticles;
  • hand cream after washing — especially at night, with a richer cream;
  • cuticle oil every day — two drops before bed are enough;
  • hot water in moderation — wear gloves for dishes and cleaning;
  • don't use your nails as tools — opening jars and peeling stickers lifts gel polish at the tips;
  • refresh on time — every 2–3 weeks, when the cuticle grows and a gap appears at the base of the nail.

Feet need the same care: heels get rough quickly in the cold season. See pedicure in autumn.

Frequently asked questions

What nail colour should I wear in autumn?

The most popular autumn colours are dark cherry, burgundy, wine and chocolate. If you don't like dark shades, choose a nude or milky colour with clean cuticles.

What nail colours suit winter?

In winter, emerald, midnight blue and festive shimmer join the dark shades. Before New Year many people add a glitter accent to one nail.

Which nail shape suits a dark manicure?

A short square with soft corners or a short oval. The shape shows clearly on a dark colour, so the nails should be the same length and symmetrical.

How long does gel polish last in winter?

2–3 weeks with the right care. Use hand cream and cuticle oil every day, wear gloves outside and don't open jars with your nails.

How much is a gel polish manicure at SANLE?

A gel polish manicure costs from 55₾, with strengthening from 70₾, and a classic manicure from 40₾.
